Free Cool Moving Screensavers

Posted by Cami Nivolinia on December 21st, 2009

If you search on the internet you can easily find many moving screensavers. Some people want to pay for extra fancy screensavers and they may cost you a few dollars. But most people are satisfied with generic free screensavers that just get the job done.

Early computer monitors had a light image that sometimes froze or would burn into a computer screen. This was caused by letting the screen sit too long without moving. You can set moving screensavers to start after a certain period of inactivity so there are no more burned images.

Some websites have hundreds of moving screensavers in their database. Many people like the fall and winter themes, along with images of a tropical island or their favorite town.

Some of the finest moving screensavers can cost plenty of money. You may have one customized by a web or graphics designer for several thousand dollars. Before you do this you should try the free screensavers first.

Free moving screensaver sites do offer a wonderful selection of downloads. These sites are constantly changing with new inventory so it is always a good idea to find several different sites that you like with different products.

The newest moving screensavers are almost true to life so you are immersed in their beauty. The sounds of nature are plentiful and prevalent. It is almost you can actually put yourself in the image and feel the scenery surrounding you.

There are also very simple screensavers if you are not into flashy things. These no frills screensavers are for folks who don’t want anything fancy. A number of them just consist of abstract colors and shapes.

Simple moving screensavers were the first sort of screensavers used when PCs were new to the market one or two decades back. They’re still around today because folks still like straightforward and non-flashy things.

There are moving screensavers available for the 4th of July and spring. Other popular ones are winter and Halloween. You can see the snow falling and hear the fireworks exploding. You can hear the birds chirping in the spring and the ghosts and goblins scaring everyone. Even if you cannot find a free screensaver you like you can always find a website that sells them for cheap. Using your screensaver will save energy and entertain you and the whole family for years to come.

Cami wrote another very practical article that you can browse before you download anything from the internet, so make sure you check Cami Nivolinias post on moving screensavers for the rest of this article. For a limited time you can get a lot more information. Visit us to receive your free cool moving screensavers today.

The Benefits Of Seeking Out A Cheap Laptop

Posted by Matthew Kerridge on November 29th, 2009

A lot of Americans own computers. Of those that own computers, many of them own more than one and with good reason. Personal computer access can save you a lot of trouble when you need any amount of the incredible wealth of knowledge that the Internet and computer software makes available. It is almost becoming more popular to own a computer that can travel with you, and thus the popularity for laptops. If you or someone you know wants to get their feet wet with the portable aspect, you can start off with a cheap laptop and see how you like it.

If you are considering getting a cheap laptop, you need to be made aware of the options you have to customize your new computer. Some of these features include: the size of the screen and computer, the size of the hard drive, and the amount of memory to run applications.

The size of the laptop is likely the first thing you notice when you are shopping around. This matters to many folks because they want to be able to comfortably take it where they want to go without compromising the quality of the screen or the computer itself. So the best advice when you are looking for a cheap laptop is to start small. The screens go as small as 8. 9″ and remain fully functional and legible. Remember: the bigger the screen, the bigger the laptop, and the bigger the price.

The hard drive is quite simply how much your laptop can store at any given time. Lower end storage capacity is about 4-8 GB, but laptops have as much as a Terabyte (1,000 Gigabytes) of storage space. Granted, you can expect to pay a pretty penny for the convenience of having this much storage. As far as a cheap laptop, you should be looking more towards 8GB, and less towards the TB.

The final thing that needs to be assessed when you are buying a new computer is the memory amount. The memory is the indication of what kind of workload the computer will be able to handle simultaneously before slowing down. The higher the memory, the more the computer can do. Also, the higher the memory the more the computer will cost. But lower end models will range between 512MB and 2GB of memory.

You can get a cheap laptop all over the Internet or through select stores. A good place to start on any electronics is Ebay, you can also find some pretty great deals on sites like: www.newegg.com and www.buy.com.

If you know what you are looking for, getting a great laptop at an incredibly low price is not something of fantasy. You have to remember, the more you want the laptop to handle and do, the more it will inevitably cost.

The Choices In Mobile Computers: Notebook, Laptop And Netbook

Posted by Matthew Kerridge on November 23rd, 2009

There are notebook, there are laptops, and there are netbooks. Many people are aware of this, but most people could not tell you difference between the three. The netbook is the baby of the bunch: younger, smaller and a lot less mature.

A netbook, simply put, is a smaller notebook computer. They are called “net” books because they are designed to access the internet. Although some can function the same as larger counterparts, many have only the features necessary for mobile communication and web browsing.

How is that different than a notebook or laptop? A notebook technically means a computer that runs on a battery that is similar to the size and function of a notebook you write in. It does not further specify how it will be used. The definition of a laptop is even vaguer. It is simply a computer that can sit on your lap. Since items that you can sit on your lap can be bigger than notebooks you might carry in a briefcase, a laptop is generally larger than a notebook.

In addition to size, there are other differences between the tiny net notebooks and other portable computers. One noticeable difference is price. Netbooks are typically the most affordable options and typically are under $500.

Even though it is possible for a notebook and a netbook to be the same size, the functionality of a netbook is a lot different from the notebook computers. Netbook computers typically have less power, and cannot run most powerful operating systems. For many this is not a problem, because only using the internet does not require a lot of power out of a computer.

The problem with this however, is that many consumers do not realize that their affordable tiny computers cannot do all of the things their desktop or even their last notebook could do. Many people begin to miss having a CD or DVD drive, which is not available in all models. They also may not connect to the internet at the fastest possible speed or process general information at a speed that other computers can.

Surprisingly, the main difference about netbooks, might actually be their biggest drawback. These tiny computers come with tiny keyboards and tiny screens. If you spend a lot of time on a computer, typing on a keyboard 80-90% normal size will be noticeable. Viewing web pages on a 9 inch screen also is not optimal.

If you understand the true definition of a “net”book, it is easy to understand why some people love them. You can also understand why they are not notebooks are laptops. These new additions to the computing world are a simple, tiny and affordable way to access the net.

Is The MacBook Air Worth It?:A Full Review

Posted by Claire Greenway on October 11th, 2009

Apple’s MacBook Air is one of those things that’s on everyone’s wish lists at the moment. It’s simply sexy!

The MacBook Air is one of the slimmest laptop on the planet. As made clear on their huge advertising campaign,
this laptop will fit in a manila envelope!

The MacBook Air’s keyboard is something that was well designed by Apple. It’s great to type with.
The separate buttons for keys make making typing mistakes next to impossible, unlike standard keyboards
which have joined buttons, which leads to sliding of fingers etc.

The 13 inch LED screen is great. Unlike most other screens with backlights, this screen consumes next to no
electricity.

The graphics of the screen are amazing; unlike the normal fuzzy, low res quality you would expect on a laptop with a small screen, the Air shines, with vibrant, bright and sharp graphics that can only be wished for on most other small laptops.

Unfortunately, Apple only offers the screen with a glossy finish, so be prepared for impaired view when using this laptop outside.

Being such a small laptop, the MacBook air doesn’t have space to cater for large “luxuries” such as the disc drove.
Because of this, the MacBook Air comes with small adapters, which lets you
connect with DVI, USB or your external disc drive that comes with the Air.

As do all Apple computers, the Air runs the Leopard operating system. However, there have been some changes to the OS to cater for
the Air’s new and huge multi-touch touchpad. The Air’s OS supports multi-touch hand gestures to perform certain actions now, such as a three-finger
swipe along the touchpad to go forwards or backwards on the Air’s default internet browser, Safari.

All in all, the Air’s OS is just like it is on all Apple products; beautiful, functional and very easy to use.

The MacBook Air is a beautiful piece of tech. On the downside, it’ll cost you in excess of $1500. If you are
desperately in need of a new sexy laptop, and this is in your price range, get it! Of course, if your budget isn’t so high, it probably would be better for you to get another make of laptop insteadof this rather pricey Apple product.

Ways For Extending Your Laptop’s Life

Posted by Francua Smith on September 14th, 2009

If you want to extend your laptop’s life, there are some specific things you can do. You definitely want to make your laptop last as long as possible, and not have to buy a new machine every year or two. No matter what price your laptop cost you, you’d do well to learn the following tips to extend its life. Read on to find out some great tips on this topic …

1. Keep It Cool The first thing I every time do to extend my laptop’s life? Well, it’s simple. Keep it cool. The more heat your laptop accumulates, the more probable it is to suffer from element failure. Note that whether you like to slump into a couch to type on your laptop, you will most probable block the machine’s air vents and prevent air from circulating. This spells heat for the machine - which is not a fine thing. To cool a laptop, one fine way is to get a cooling pad. These things draw heat away from the system and normally cost about tell $30. You will, at the same time prevent your laptop’s internal fans from spinning overly much, saving your battery life as well.

2. Carry The Laptop Carefully I’ve seen some folks treat and carry their laptops like junk. If you throw your laptop onto the bed and it lands on the floor, or you leave it in the hot sun in the back seat of you car - well, good luck. No laptop is gonna survive long in those circumstances. You need to make sure you carry the laptop with care. In addition, get a good bag that offers maximum protection. Targus makes great laptop bags and they have padded sidewalls with air-protection technology.

3. Choose a SSD A solid-state drive (SSD) is a next generation kind of hard drive. There are no moving parts, no platters or read/write heads (hard drive jargon). Everything is stored in non-volatile flash memory, like in your pen drive. This does wonders for your laptop. You will have longer lifespan because you don’t have a moving hard drive that breaks down. You also generate less heat since there’s no hard drive whirring in the background. Now, the prices of SSDs are still quite high and cost about $15 per GB - these are however coming down. I think the maximum size now is about 128 GB. Remember to look out for them if you’re trying to get a new laptop.

4. Protect The Battery Your laptop’s battery is also very sensitive. Don’t charge and discharge it all the time. Whenever you plug your laptop into an outlet, make it a habit to unplug the battery. If you leave it in, the AC power could cause the battery to overheat and overcharge. Then, when running on battery power, use the laptop until you get a low-battery warning, then plug in the charger and let it recharge fully. That’ll extend the life of that battery.

5. Reformat the Hard Drive If you find your laptop running really slow, one option is to reformat the hard drive. Remember, we all let all sorts of junk software clog up our operating systems. Windows tends to get bogged down by the orphaned files, funny Registry entries and spyware. Reformat the hard drive and install everything clean (get a friend or a shop to do it if you’re not sure how). I guarantee you will get your laptop functioning and running faster. One trick I like to use is to install all my essential software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.) then take a backup using imaging software (e.g. Acronis True Image). When you feel the laptop going sluggish, simply backup your data files and do a image restore. Your system will be refreshed with all the original clean, intact programs and it will run faster.

6. Avoid The Standby Mode One last thing is regarding the Standby mode. Standby mode is nice but it consumes battery power. So you risk reducing the life of your battery. Next time, use the Hibernate mode instead of Standby, it preserves your laptop’s current state by writing it to the hard drive as a file. And it does not require no power. It takes a few extra seconds to use Hibernate, but it will extend your laptop battery life.

Conclusion I hope this article has shown you some good tips for extending your laptop’s life. Note that a laptop is a pricey investment - do your best to keep it safe and working for a long, long time. By the way, if you’re interested in laptops or want to learn more about them, feel free to check out my free guide.

5 Tips To Choose The Best Laptop To Buy

Posted by Francua Smith on September 12th, 2009

Are you paralyzed by indecision when it comes to buying laptops? The truth is, deciding on the best laptop to buy is a difficult decision. It stumps the best of us - even my more technically inclined friends can’t decide on a model that will best suit their needs. To help you out, I’ve decided to list down 5 ways to help you choose the best laptop to buy. Make sure you run through this list the next time you’re out purchasing a laptop.

1. What Speed Do You Need? One of the most important decisions you need to make before buying a laptop is to decide the speed required. If you’re using the laptop mainly for word processing or emailing, you don’t need as much computing horsepower. In that case, you might want to settle for an AMD Turion or a standard Intel Centrino CPU. If you need to use the laptop for graphics or heavy gaming, then you will certainly want a powerful CPU chip one like the Intel Core 2 Duo.

2. The Display Screen The next thing you should do when deciding on the best laptop to buy is to consider the display screen. These days, large 17-inch, glossy display screens are becoming more and more common. But ask yourself, do you really need all that glossy eye candy? If you just want a functional, business-based laptop, then consider getting a smaller screen with a matte display.

3. The Laptop Weight Another approach I utilize to eliminate laptops in my purchase is to assume about the weight. Most people I know want to buy lightweight laptops. Which is perfectly understandable - who wants to lug a 6 pound machine all over city or all over campus? So it is necessary for you to assume about whether weight is an issue for you. If it is, then eliminate those desktop replacement or heavy laptops from your list and concentrate on ultraportables.

4. The Keyboard Surprising, a lot of folks place a lot of emphasis on laptop keyboards. You may assume that a laptop keyboard is beautiful standard fare, i.e. there is not much distinction between one laptop and the next. Well, I can say you that the keyboard is the one laptop element that your hands will be touching 90% of the time. So comfort in typing is extraordinarily important. When choosing the finest laptop to buy, pay concentration to the comfort of the keyboard when you type. Some folks prefer a ‘click’ sound on the keys (I do), while others prefer a more quiet typing experience.

5. The Battery Life And the final way to check if a laptop is for you? Simple - its the laptop’s battery life. Remember, a laptop is useless if it is flat out of juice. Some laptops I know run out of power after 10 minutes of unplugging them from the wall socket. Be very careful and do your research on battery life - choose a laptop that will last at least 3 to 4 hours is possible.

Conclusion Hopefully, the above 5 ways of choosing the finest laptop will aid you out. Remember, the most necessary thing in buying a laptop is that it have to fit your needs. So every time bear that in mind - don’t bother overly much about what models others are using, only determine on one model that suits your requirements best. If you’re curious in learning more about laptops, you may want to check out my free PDF guide to laptops - download it here.

Touch Screen and Laptop Computers

Posted by Dan Mallow on August 18th, 2009

Touch screen computing has completely revolutionized the way some of us - and possibly one day all of us - use and work with computers. Most prominently, the touch screen laptop has been catching on and generating quite a buzz and many in the computer industry forecast that it will eventually overtake the common notebook as the world’s most popular portable computer.

At the same time, touch screens are popping up in grocery store checkouts and banking terminals nationwide while young boys and girls fight in back seats over whose turn it is to play with the game boy-esque touch screen toy currently becoming popular among children across the country. However, it is touch screen’s application as a personal computing device that best showcases the many uses of this versatile technology.

But probably the biggest impact touch screens may have on consumers is by way of the touch screen laptop. Laptops are now more popular than ever because of advancement in processors to allow for powerful machines in the compact space of a laptop. Touch screen laptops offer all the benefits of a traditional laptop but also transform into a full tablet PC offering features not available to standard laptop designs. It allows for students to take notes, artists to draw free-hand, and business professionals to draw directly onto the screen during a live presentation.

In addition, they tend to incorporate the use of a stylus. This amazing gadget, first made popular following its pairing with the legendary Palm Pilot, allows the user to write directly on their laptop’s screen in their own free hand cursive or handwriting. These writings are then translated into text via specialized software: the result is a level of convenience that is simply beyond compare!

In addition, the touch screen laptop will often times feature a “swiveling” monitor that allows the computer’s screen to be turned so as to run perpendicular to its optional keyboard, like a standard laptop, or flipped around to lay flat like a tablet, hence the interchangeable moniker, tablet PC. This feature allows you the option of using your computer in a standard, word processing format on a desktop or table as well as the ability to hold the computer in your lap and use it to jog notes or take minutes much like you would do on a traditional legal notepad.

On screen readers are also becoming increasingly popular but since most people already get their information online, such as news websites, or in some digital form, such as eBooks, it is inevitable that better screens and more intuitive user interfaces offered by touch screen devices will overtake newspapers and traditional information sources.

Add in the portability factor and the powerful functionality of a laptop and you have something that can easily occupy a huge chuck of our time. It is very possible for touch screen laptops to take over the traditional laptop in the near future in terms of computer sales and as software improves to better handle the development of the hardware, don’t be surprised to discover yourself a proud owner of a touch screen mobile computer one day.
