Features to Look for in a Digital Camera

Posted by Guest on February 27th, 2010

Choosing a Digital Camera

Since Christmas isn’t far away the time is here once again to start to think about gift buying. Digital cameras will be a favourite gift item as their prices have fallen dramatically in recent years. But what are the features that you should look out for when shopping for a digital camera?

You probably know that a good quality lens is as important in a digital camera as it is in analogue ones. You are probably also aware of megapixels and how the higher the number means a crisper image.

But what about image stabilization technology. This is the clever way that modern cameras can compensate for low light conditions, where higher exposure times are needed, and wobbly hands.

Another feature that you might want to look out for is face detection and auto focus capabilities. Facial recognition technology is great for point and shoot photographers. Ideal for anyone who likes a point and click camera.

A good zoom is another feature to look out for. Some cameras have a digital zoom and others have an optical. Optical zoom is generally sharper than digital which simply enlarges the digital image, lowering the resolution and making the image less sharp.

Something else to look at is battery life. I recommend selecting a camera that uses rechargeble batteries.

Look out for additional features like the ability to change lenses, image effects and built in image editing capabilities.

Also, take a look at what software comes with the package. Most modern digital cameras come with a bunch of applications for processing and editing images.

Something extra to consider when buying a new camera is some affordable camera insurance. Small, lightweight modern cameras are easily lost, damaged or even stolen so its worth spending a little money to get yourself a quick replacement if the worst should happen.

In addition you may like to consider gadget insurance to protect valuable portable devices including laptop insurance for valuable laptop computers.

Find Someone With a Phone Number Free

Posted by Guest on February 2nd, 2010

There was a time when it was really hard work trying to locate someone and the number of ways that you could use to look for someone where quite limited. It is now possible to find someone with a phone number free because searches have become so advanced these days. We’ve come a long way considering that there was a time when you would have had to pay for a search like this.

One advantage that this search has is that phone numbers are classified as listed numbers and so they can be easily looked up in any available directory.  Still your home personal directory should be able to assist you with this type of search. Browsing through all those numbers manually becomes a though task. You can then find someone with a phone number free by using the online directory.

You could browse through more people and names than you would be able to manually by just searching with the online version also because it is faster. Whitepages.com is the official site and not this one. It is just that from here you can make use of other research tools that are not available on the official site. You can find someone with a phone number free by using one of the two ways.

Phone look up services are offered by both these places. They will be able to help you when you’ve got a phone number and you would like to know who owns the number.

The kind of information that you will be able to get when you carry out a find people with a phone number free search is the individual’s names, their address and in some cases an e-mail address. I am sure that at least one of these two places that I’ve mentioned can trace the number that you want.

Form A Queue If You’re A Kindle Killer

Posted by Andrew King on November 8th, 2009

There are an incredible number of manufacturers currently fighting it out in the new, but ever expanding, e-book reader market. The high level of competition is a strong indication that rapid growth is anticipated in this sector. And this will be good news for consumers as manufacturers strive to enhance specifications and offer lower prices.

The list of major players who have e-book readers in various stages of development - and in some cases, ready for imminent release - is impressive. Plastic Logic, Barnes and Noble, Sony, Asus, iRex, - don’t forget Microsoft and Apple (as if) - are all lined up and jostling for their fair share of the market.

There can be little doubt about the market leader at the moment of course. The Kindle reader from Amazon has not only dominated the market, but has been driving and shaping its development since it hit the market in November 2007. Now into its second generation with the Kindle 2 and the large display Kindle DX, Amazon has a 60% share of the American e-book reader market. The Kindle reader is now their top selling product and, on October 19 this year Amazon commenced shipping the international Kindle 2 to over 100 countries around the world. It’s a backhanded compliment to Amazon that almost every new e-book reader in development (and there’s no shortage of these, the list above is far from exhaustive) which shows any potential whatsoever, is instantly christened the “Kindle Killer”. Currently, the Kindle sets the benchmark which must be attained, and then bettered, in order to achieve success.

If it appears as if the Kindle’s present leadership position is unassailable, then it’s probably worth considering that Amazon were a somewhat late entrant to the market when the Kindle was released. The original e-book reader is generally considered to be the Franklin eBookMan which launched in 1999 - ten years ago. The Sony PRS was also released before the Kindle’s launch in 2007.

The Kindle was such a phenomenal success for Amazon due to a number of different factors. First of all, Amazon had a strong association with books, being among the largest online retailers. They also offered a huge choice of books to download - at the moment they have in excess of 300,000 titles on their Kindle store. The option of wireless connectivity - with no ongoing fees - was another big selling point.

Just as Amazon came from nowhere to secure the number one position, one of the other contenders could do exactly the same - and in the short term. For example, Barnes and Noble have more than one million titles available for download to their new Nook e-book reader. They will also use the ePub format - which the majority of readers in development seem to be favoring. Kindle’s format is proprietary. Purchase a Kindle book - read it on your Kindle.

The Nook will also permit you to “lend” books to your friends and family for a fortnight. During this time, the borrower can read it and the lender will be unable access to it on their Nook - exactly the same as lending a “real” book. The big advantage is that, unlike a dog eared paperback, you can be sure that you will get it back.

Sony’s next generation reader - the Daily Edition - will have a large format display, just like Amazon’s Kindle DX - but unlike the DX it will have touch screen controls. It will also allow users to borrow e-books from participating public libraries on loan. Again - just like a conventional book.

Many of the other readers in the pipeline have features that could well make them more appealing than the Kindle. Amazon definitely have a fight looming - but it seems sure that they won’t surrender their number one position without a struggle. They have played a pivotal role in the development of the market up to now, and bearing in mind the critical importance of the Kindle to their current business model, it seems reasonable to expect them to have a few new tricks up their corporate sleeve.

Considering the high level of activity amongst all of these top manufacturers, it seems reasonable to predict that the e-book reader market is about to start growing even more rapidly. In all probability, the fierce competition that about to be unleashed will create a downward pressure on prices and take e-book readers out of the high tech domain and firmly into the mainstream personal mobile tech market.

Check out the Amazon Kindle and discover how to get free books for the Amazon Kindle.

Can You Save With These 4 Alternative Fuels?

Posted by John Taylor on September 29th, 2008
by John Taylor

As the price of a gallon of gasoline tops four dollars, researchers are scrambling to come up with a workable fuel alternative that’s cheaper and more readily available. Four of these include: Biodiesel, Electricity, Ethanol and Water (Yes, Water).

Biodiesel is a renewable fuel produced by a variety of vegetable oils and animal fats. It can be used in a pure form or blended with other products. Biodiesel is clean burning, non toxic and biodegradable.

It’s also less combustible and fairly easy to produce domestically and it can even be produced at home although this is not recommended without appropriate guidance. When strict guidelines are not followed it could damage a very expensive diesel engine. It’s safe to handle, store and transport making it very desirable from a security and health standpoint. The U. S. biodiesel industry currently is very small but growing rapidly.

Electricity can be used to power pure electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Electric vehicles (EVs) work by storing energy in batteries and powering the wheels by an electric motor. Storage capacity and distance are limited. Some have on board chargers and others require a plug-in.

These vehicles are small but quiet and have no tail pipe emissions. They’re mostly used for neighborhood commuting, light hauling and delivery with a maximum speed of 35 mph. Batteries have to be replaced about every four years or 20,000 miles.

No major auto manufacturer has yet begun producing a total electric vehicle because they say the demand isn’t there. But some small independent manufacturers have found a niche market and increasing demand.

Ethanol is a renewable fuel made from a variety of plants called biomass. In the U. S., ethanol is primarily made from corn but in Brazil they use sugar cane. It contains the same chemical compound found in alcohol.

Research is continuing into Cellulosic Ethanol Feedstock. This includes making the fuel from agricultural residue such as wheat straw and leaves, forestry wastes such as wood chips and sawdust and even plant derived household garbage together with waste paper products.

Grasses are now also being raised for ethanol production. Benefits include total manufacture domestically, low greenhouse emissions and creating jobs in depressed employment sectors.

A gallon of pure ethanol contains 34% less energy than a gallon of gas and gets lower gas mileage. It can only be used in flex fuel vehicles but is usually priced cheaper in order to compete with higher priced gasoline.

One of the most exciting potential sources of energy is the conversion of water to gas using a conversion kit to transform water into HHO which can be combined with gas to power a vehicle.

The U. S. Department of Energy says these alternative fuels increase our energy security, improve public health and our environment. Studies estimate that ethanol and other biofuels could reduce more than 30% of gas demand in the United States by the year 2030 and HHO could reduce it even further. Usually, when demand drops, so do prices.

Big Music with iPod Nano Speakers

Posted by Guest on September 10th, 2008

If you require to blast music from your iPod Nano, you’ll need speakers. Fortunately, you can get speakers made for iPod Nanos specifically, or just go with a standard set of mini speakers. This article takes a look at some speakers for the iPod Nano. If you don’t have a home stereo system to plug your iPod Nano into, mini speakers by various companies like Sony, Coby, or even Koss work purely fine. They’re commonly pretty affordable too, and all you have to do is plug the speakers into the iPod Nano’s headset jack to start enjoying music. Depending on the model, some speakers may or may not require batteries, or they may come with a power adapter or USB cable. An ordinary set of mini speakers will run you about $10, like the Sony SRS-P7 Passive Speaker System with Stereo Mini-Plug Input, which was listed for $9.99 at amazon.com. You won’t get the same quality you would with a nice set of Bose speakers or other home system, but it should be adequate for personal use as long as you don’t expect CD quality sound. Although mini speakers work fine with iPod Nanos, stylistically they don’t really match up that well. If you want speakers designed for iPod Nanos, you can try the iPod Nano Portable Aluminum Speakers with USB Power Cord. These speakers cost $9.99 at handhelditems.com, which also has the iPod Foldable Multimedia Speaker - HiSound for $39.99 (check the website for current prices and availability).

Other Features

Both of these units work with most iPods, not just Nanos, as well. They have a remotely iPod look to them and come in white. Still, they’re physically not the most exciting looking speakers ever. If you want unique looking ones, try visiting The Sharper Image online at sharperimage.com or flip through one of their catalogs. If nothing else, they have some unique looking speakers and accessories for Nanos and iPods. For example, they have the “organic looking orb” (as described in the catalog) Magic Wave Speakers, which includes an FM transmitter that works via a motion sensor and a light show! You can plug it right into your iPod via the headset jack.

The Magic Wave costs $39.95, and there are other fun products like the miFlower. You can plug this flower-like speaker/toy into your iPod, and it will bop along to your music by moving and flashing its lights. It also has an LCD face and includes a clock. The miFlower costs $24.95. There are also other fun speakers/toys like the i-Dog or i-Cat as well, so check them out if you’re looking for something different.

5 Secrets to Lower Electricity Bill

Posted by Daniel Shermann on September 9th, 2008
by Daniel Shermann

Times now are hard and they are just going to get harder. Unless one does something about it, money problems will continue to grow. One way to cut down on monthly costs is to lower electricity bill by cutting down on your family?s usage. Aside from saving you money, it could also save the environment.

By making small sacrifices, you can drastically decrease the use of electricity in your home. Thus, you can lower electricity bill successfully. You may not appreciate the help right away, but in the long run the savings you will get will mount to huge amounts.

Follow these simple tips:

1. Open Windows - Use window films instead of blinds or curtains. Summer time is getting hotter and hotter. More people now are using their air conditioner in the most uncomfortable heat and that is usually around noon time. They usually close their curtains or blinds because the heat from the sunlight coming in only makes the heat worse.

The problem with closing your blind during the daytime is the waste of sunlight. You end up turning on lights inside the house and that means using more energy. A perfect solution is to use window film. It allows the light from the sun to come in the house but stops the heat from going in with it. So you end up with a bright cold room.

2. Blankets - Turn off that heater and pile on the blankets. This is a simple and efficient way to give your heater a rest. During cold nights, you can just use more than the normal number of blankets that you use. An extra blanket on your bed is exactly what you need to push back the thermostat a couple of degrees back. This small act can save you thousands of dollars in the long run.

3. Unused Appliances - Unplug unnecessary appliances and electronics. Plugged appliances that are not used will still eat up energy. There are a number of appliances that are left plugged all around the house even though no one is using them. Unplugging these small appliances or electronics will lower your energy usage. Although it might be annoying to keep setting the time on the VCR or DVD player, it is worth the trouble. So unplug to save money, especially if the plugs are not hard to reach.

4. Ref Cleaning - Clean your refrigerator?s coils. The refrigerator is an important appliance in your home. It is also to blame for a huge portion of your electric bill. So if you take care of your refrigerator, you can control your energy usage. When your refrigerator has dirty condenser coils, it has to work harder to keep your food cool. Perform maintenance checks on your refrigerator every 3 months for optimum performance.

5. Auto Lighting - Use motion detectors to lower electricity bill. Forgetting to shut off lights is one of the problems many families face. These forgotten lights can add a lot to the electric bill. You can put them in rooms like the bathroom or garage where people usually forget to turn off the lights when they leave. This can save you a lot of money in the long run.
