Wellness And Healing Community Goes Green
Founded in 2003 in West Annapolis as a tiny out-of-the-way refuge offering peace, silence, and tranquility to local residents, Ridgely Retreat becomes the primary local business in Annapolis to have earned its independently-audited, nationwide Green Business certification. Andrea L. Lichtenstein, R.N. is not only the owner of Ridgely Retreat but also an active Board Member of the Arthritis Foundation and the West Annapolis Business Association.
“It’s in actuality an idea whose time has come” states Jean Cozzolino, the local Certified Green Consultant who worked with Ridgely Retreat. She also said “In today’s world, customers are now searching for businesses that are genuinely concerned about the environment.” However, she also was swift to point out that ” because being “green” is now so trendy, almost every business is starting to declare they are Green or offer Green products or services lacking any independent verification.”
Concerned about this apparent lack of credibility of many of these claims, Cozzolino has become a Certified Green Consultant(TM) working with the Green Business League(TM). She goes on to say “We know what Green is. We know where it starts and the simple path to real progress. But, best of all, we can both recognize and reward when any firm has achieved the milestones of certifiable progress and Ridgely Retreat has achieved such a milestone.”
The independently-verified process acknowledged all of the continuing environmental initiatives that Ridgely Retreat, under the direction of Andrea Lichtenstein, utilizes. Using Green janitorial supplies, HEPA vacuums, low VOC paint, and a Nikken water filtration process are some of the usually practices that earned Ridgely this international Certified Green Business feature.
Ms. Cozzolino went on to note that “It’s this kind of attempt and dedication that makes both her community and her customers extremely proud” stated Cozzolino. Ms. Lichtenstein was so dedicated to her Green practices that, previous to the City of Annapolis offered recycling to businesses, she regularly took Ridgely’s waste home to sort and recycle.
Ridgely Retreat is known for being the one place in this hurried world where you can be guaranteed to be enveloped in a peaceful ambiance. Ms. Lichtenstein stated “I am very proud that I have been able to create an environment where busy, successful people can escape from the crazy day-to-day rat race. Our clients can enjoy a massage, indulge in a facial, or unwind in one of our many, many classes. It really makes me feel good to see people reemerge relaxed and fully rejuvenated and I’m really proud that I can do it in an environmentally-responsible manner.”
Ridgely offers classes in Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, NIA and Meditation. Plus, it offers specialized care for infertility, fibromyalgia, arthritis and chronic pain.
