Phones Soon To Be the Only Computers We Need

without comments

Mobile (cell) phone technology has been accelerating at a rate of knots every since the first one hit the markets. When mobile phones first hit the market they required a trolley to carry around only had buttons 1-9.Modern phones though do a whole lot more than they used to. You can receive email on your phone, take high-resolution pictures and even play online games against someone the other side of the world. The advancement of the mobile phone shows no signs of slowing down either, and those in the know have suggested that before long, there wont be any room in the market for stand-alone gadgets.

John Moore, head of Advanced Technology at Cambridge University had outlined his vision for the future. “ I predict that very soon all the requirements of the modern way of life will be served by phones…technology is getting smaller thanks to things like mini electrical components and people are becoming ever more mobile, so it make sense that people want to carry their life in their pocket”.

Modern phones have highly-functional MP3 players built in, and you can now store more songs than you could possible ever listen to. Camera technology in phones is advancing at an alarming rate also, with some of the best phones offering up to 10 mega pixels and some even now provide optical zoom. Internet browsing has been made very easy on the latest phones, and many websites have started creating ‘phone-friendly’ versions of their sites in response to the growth in phone browsing.

Some critics have suggested that people will not want to give up the luxury of having large viewing screens like they do on their PCs, or TVs. Nokia have silenced these critics to some extent recently when they bought out a phone that could project a screen size of up to 45 inches onto the nearest wall. It seems like it’s out with home entertainment units and cable ties, and in with nana processers and micro circuit breakers, powering some of the most power bits of kit the world has ever seen.

Choosing The Right Prepaid Mobile Plan

without comments

How do you select what is best for you in the jungle of prepaid mobile plans and offers? Read this guide – regardless of where you live in the world, it will help you to choose the plan that will make you spend less.

To begin with, you need to understand that there are stark differences between the available prepaid mobile offers. They may seem the same at first glance, or perceptions of differences may at first only be tied to the operators’ advertising campaigns, but once you look deeper, you will understand the differences.

When choosing the phone itself, you can go for a basic model, or for a high-end multimedia or business handset, depending on your needs. The main drawback of prepaid mobile contracts is that you will have to fund the handset yourself upfront, the operator will not give you any discounts. But even taking the price of an expensive phone in account, in the end you will spend less.

Prepaid mobiles work by there being a credit sum that you need to pay in advance, and you can then call as long as the credit is positive. You can usually recharge different credit amounts. But you need to be aware of the fact that recharging less frequently, but for bigger amounts, will often result in gaining added perks that will make you save money in the long run.

One important thing to check is rollover. The amount of time that your credit will be valid could be several months, but it could also be for only a week, depending on the operator or plan. Also, with some carriers any remaining credit’s validity is lengthened if you add some more credit. This is especially important if you don’t use your phone a lot.

Another great alternative is off peak rates, meaning that your prepaid mobile calls will cost less during the weekend and in the evening. As a result, you will spend less if you mostly use your phone during those hours and not during office hours, when most people (whether workers, students or homemakers) are usually near a fixed phone anyway.

If you call abroad a lot, you may check if your prepaid mobile operator has a cheap international call option. But usually international calls are expensive from prepaid mobiles. We suggest getting a call card with a dedicated number from a specialized vendor, and calling the dial-in number from your mobile. You will save money that way.

Other important price checks are the price of internet connections, dirt-cheap text messages, free voicemail or directory assistance, or extra premium ringtones as a welcome bonus.

The main lessons to bear in mind are that you need to know your expected type of prepaid mobile usage to be able to save, and that comparing and contrasting offers will allow you to find the most appropriate prepaid mobile for you.

Ring Tones – Yeh Dil Maange More

without comments

The words in the Pepsi advertisement jingle compiled for the Indian audience, literally translating to “the heart wants more” and most everyone’s craze for new and varied ring tones are a perfect match. With the number of cell phone connections sky rocketing in India and the rest of the world, this is one craze that has very little chance of ebbing away. Not that I am one to complain, especially if the tune is one of Kishore Kumar’s evergreen melodies! But I’d draw the line at some of the more bizarre tunes or so called tunes, like a baby crying or the sound of a ‘fart’ that some individuals insist on assaulting our eardrums with.

Some basic points about the ring tone:

1. It is the name given to the sound made by any kind of telephone, not just mobile phones, to announce an incoming call or text message. Most of these sounds, especially those that do not have a tune or are not customised, are not tones at all and should actually be called ring sounds.

2. The first telephones had a bell which made a ‘ring’ing sound when struck by a hammer, operating electromagnetically, to announce a call. While this system is still common, most cell phones and modern land line phones have advanced from the ring to producing different kinds of sounds.

3. While receivers nowadays allow adjustments to the volume, there are many variations on offer regarding the type of ring tone – to allow differentiation between two or more instruments lying side by side. Specific customer requirements are also covered, such as for the hearing impaired.

4. Towards the late 1980s mechanical ring tones were slowly getting replaced by electronic ones progressing from single tones to those playing two, three or more tones and then on to melodies.

5. 1996 saw the advent of the customised ring tones on mobile phones, with some Japanese manufacturers offering a number of options, both customised and pre-recorded.

6. Downloadable ring tones were available from 1998 and this service has now become an enormously successful industry right across the globe.

7. Real tones, which are usually taken from popular songs, began to be distributed from late in 2002.

All the new music being generated by bands, composers, films, etc. number in the hundreds of thousands across the world. Marketing these as ring tones before or at the time of launch allows the tune to become popular and improve the prospects of it becoming a ‘hit’. Ring tones are now available online, can be sent via sms or copied from a DVD or CD. A number of sites specialise in bringing the latest offerings to the consumer, sometimes the second it’s out of the recording studio. There is a huge amount of financial turnover in this business, running into billions of dollars, because everyone would love to have only the latest and the best. Since I am no different from most others and want options for everything, my heart to get to have more . ring tones!

Reverse Cell Phone Look Up

with one comment

Are free mobile number lookups available on the internet? Quite a number of us are getting really cheated and irritated by sites which apparently offer free services and products but as a matter of fact don’t. Are mobile number lookups also the same?

A telephone number lookup is a means of finding out information on the owner of the number by using the number. This is beneficial as people may sometimes forget the name of the owner, but still have their number by losing their contact or things like that. It may be beneficial for those who just simply wish to know who the number belongs to and many other purposes too. These can all be done by employing reverse cell phone lookup services. Many places offer such services free of cost and there are even toll free numbers which can be called up so as to get information on a discrete telephone number.

This is not the case when it comes to mobile numbers. There exists no free directory as such in which all mobile numbers are listed and same is the case for fax numbers. The existence of such directories or free directories is what is unknown to many people.

The answer is that there are a good many websites which do offer mobile numbers and information pertaining to particular numbers. However, there is no free site that is offering such a service. It is not an easy task to collect information on all the mobile numbers listed and put them in one place. The owners of the site might have paid considerable amounts of money to gather the information and also for uploading them on the server. Hence, to compensate for all this, a small fee is levied for access. Once access is granted, according to the amount paid, unlimited or limited access to the databases can be obtained. The records of the service providing organizations claim that the information supplied include the names, history of addresses, details of service providers and status of connection of the phone. The information that is supplied by each company is indeed different, but only by small variations. Many companies even provide other telephone numbers listed with the owner, pagers and mobiles and there is also guarantee that the searches made are confidential and perfectly legal.

Also, many websites even provide access to sensitive information like background reports, background checks, bankruptcies, people finder databases, liens and other records like adoptions, births, deaths, divorces and marriages and even records of sexual offenders and police records. Although the same site providing information on reverse cell phone lookup is providing all of this, there is a separate fee for providing different sets of information and each set of information is charged at a different rate. The membership of the reverse mobile lookup service web site may or may not include these facilities, according to the wishes of the company providing access to this data.

As we discussed before, you cannot get everything in life for free. So you’ll have to keep that bitter fact in mind while you’re working on your reverse cell phone lookup techniques as well. Considering that information is worth quite a few dollars these days, sites are not hesitating to cash in for their services either. Unfortunately, we are forced to conclude that unless you’re satisfied with just a line or two of information that accompanies your initial free search, you will have to shell out some money for a free cell phone lookup.

How to Perform a Reverse Phone Number Search

without comments

How many times have you tried to do a reverse telephone number search and failed, especially a cell phone number search? The problem is that there are many phone numbers that aren’t listed. This can be a problem if you’re looking for a specific number urgently.

The need for a number right away may come from prank calls to a phone or a suspicious number on your partner’s/lover’s cell phone or bill.

There are many ways of finding the owner of a number. If it’s a landline then the best source is the White Pages; if it’s a cell number that is unlisted then you will have to dig deeper and probably use an online reverse telephone number search database.

When it comes to doing a reverse telephone number search on a cell phone number; networks do not provide the information to the public domains. This will make the reverse telephone number search for a cell phone number more difficult; but hey, nothing is impossible!! One way to search is to type the number in the search box of your computer with the area code; there are times when this works wonders for you and the best thing, it’s free. You could also use the *67 from an outside phone but this is not always good because you could be letting the prankster or cheater know you are on a search for them and they will just take a different route.

If everything else fails, there is an easier and less time consuming way to do a reverse telephone number search; that is a reverse cell phone directory. This service won’t come for free but they usually have a nominal cost of anywhere from $10 – $35. The reason for the fee is that the online databases continuously have to be updated as new phone numbers come in and this takes time and money.

When using a reverse telephone number search, remember to find one that will let you test whether the owner’s cell phone number is present in the database.

The Rise of GPS Mobile Phones and Downfall of Stand Alone Options

without comments

Take a minute and remember the last twenty years of your life. Technology has literally transformed the way we live so much, that most of the things available are or will become a necessity. A good example of this is a GPS system that you find in your mobile phone. Most of these tiny little pieces are situated inside the SIM card and can keep track of your location. It’s an amazing feat, when not too long ago cell phones looked like huge walkie-talkies.

Even though all mobile phones still don’t have a GPS feature, most of them are equipped as long as you have access to a 3G network. It is said they can do many of the same things a stand alone can do, but that’s simply not the case. You’ve probably heard of big names like Garmin who use stand alones in the car. However, their product is geared towards a true GPS system, while cell phones have several different features like cameras, Internet, ring tones and MP3 players.

Since mobiles are so spread out, they can’t focus on the best product of one feature. Plus, having a stand alone like the ones you see in cars are much safer when driving. Granted you may have a passenger to help you, but in most cases using a cell phone for GPS purposes could leave you in an accident or worse. If you are using a stand alone the only time your eyes are off the road is to glance over or use the voice directions option.

So the stand alone unit is better for the car. But then again, when you park the car, you take the pink mobile phones with you while you are not likely to lug both the phone and the GPS, unless you have a lot of pockets. And cargo pants are just not in this year.

Right now, both the cell phone and the GPS markets are growing. The problem for the GPS manufacturers is that if customers had to choose only one, they would certainly choose the cell phone and more and more phones are being offered with GPS capabilities for no charge. That means that consumers will only buy a GPS unit if the one on their Sim free mobile phone is not good enough. And for many people it will be just fine.

Market analysts say that the stand alone GPS market will continue to grow for a few more years as the prices are lowered, but that it will drop off drastically as people upgrade to the latest generations of smart phones and the 3G network coverage is completed. At that point the cell phone GPS systems will be improved enough to compete with the stand alones in all but screen size. And the negative for the phone there is countered by its portability and multi functionality.

It’s a great example of how the world turns, and when one product comes out there is always another one in the works. The end result is great for technology, but bad for the companies that spent millions manufacturing obsolete products.

Technology Infos – Video iPod`s ads

without comments

IPod video was a surprising new device at its appearance, due to the new and exiting calibre that it could offer: playing videos. Besides this, the iPods have known, since their appearance on the market, a constant evolution, which lead to the fact that the public and the potential customers had more and more expectations regarding this product. With a new offer and design, the new product iPod video had a series of new ads, some trusty and some suspicious, because of their imitation or less real aspect.

Due to the fact that the product was not yet in stores and people didn?t expect such a product to appear, there were a number of teasing and controversial ads (regarding their authenticity) which appeared and circled on the Internet. By bringing a new and relevant feature to the device, such as the video feature, the potential customers were surprised by the evolution of the product and so, the ads purpose was established. One of these ads represents the iPod video in an unreal shape (meaning that the authentic iPod has other optical features and another design). The ad was very short, as it lasted only 15 seconds. The video begins with presenting some corners of the new device, which are revealed in a computerized manner.

This one side of the device turns and the other one presents a screen which played the most recent music video belonging to the band Black-Eyed Peas (Pump it). The music and rhythm were dynamic and fast and so were the characters, who were dancing while driving. Suddenly, the slogan Introducing the new hand held movie theatre appeared and shortly after, the phrase new hand held movie theatre was cut out and the new phrase new iPod appeared on the screen, resulting Introducing the new iPod.

The controversy around this ad is focused on the fact that the actual iPod video doesn?t have the same characteristics as the one in the ad: the actual device looks very similar to the 1st to 4th generation of iPods, meaning the screen is over the buttons, but the one revealed in the ad presented a very large screen.

Still, there are many ads of the new iPod video which are, for sure, authentic. The main idea of these is the fact that music can be seen, as well, besides just being heard. This is why the Apple company opted for integrating famous artists in the ads for their product: one of the ads featured U2′s Original of the Species from the Vertigo – Live From Chicago DVD and another two featured Eminem and Wynton Marsalis. The ads featuring these artist were much longer than the usual ones and they basically played famous songs, but not together with their videos; instead, the producers opted for some more authentic images illustrating performances of these artists, which would look natural and more spontaneous. The ads for this new product were focused on the video playing capabilities of the device and the producers wanted, at the same time, to symbolize the new range of possibilities that the new model of iPpod had to offer.

The main intent of the ads was clear, even though these 3 ads had very different targets. Based on the fact that the clients of the new device come from different backgrounds and are of different ages, the producers and the marketers managed to pick some artists that represent generations and symbolize best their tastes and lifestyle: Eminem stands for teens and hip hop music, Wynton Marsalis is representative for adults who like classical and talking music and U2 is somewhere in between the other 2 opposite styles. In parallel, the ads with the diversion silhouettes continued with more specified backgrounds, which were representing the video options. The iPod`s video ads show that the product has definitely evolved, has a more mature image and optimized new features.

Mobile Providers Fear skype

without comments

Over a decade ago cell phones were impossible to carry around because they were so big and had to technology on them whatsoever.  Fast forward to the current day and age and we are seeing phones being released that have a variety of crazy features including cameras, games and WAP.

But most probably one of the largest innovations is the creation of internet access, accessing the web through your phone is just the same as doing it on your home computer. And this is causing network providers to get into bit of a pickle. We all know that mobile networks have been making a fortune for years and this is because they overcharge to make calls.

But as internet access on mobiles phones grow so do access to free wifi spots, so this could potentially wipe out all of the mobile phone networks, because what is happening is that people are connecting to the internet and accessing Skype, which gives you the ability to have free calls between Skype users. Most of the UK providers have already banned VoIP access, but Nokia’s recent release of their N97 come’s pre installed with Skype giving users the ability to easily access the service.

The networks should not be blocking things like this, in my view, as it just makes them look ridiculous. We are currently in the midst of a huge credit crunch; people want to be able to find ways to save money. I 100% believe that Three took the correct approach by offering their users the freedom of choice and that is why their company has expanded. If the networks want to stay in business then they need to get together and find a way to partner up with services such as Skype for example, this way they could share revenue, but blocking is definitely not the way forwards.
