HP Laptop Chargers – Make yourself aware of the variations in these adaptors

There are four different kinds of HP laptop chargers and although the differences are small, they are significant. The chargers vary in terms of either the tip that plugs into your laptop or the power that is supplied. You need both to be correct for your laptop.

When you look for a new laptop adaptor, you need to look for two things. How big is the tip that goes into your laptop and what is the voltage you need. With this information at your disposal, you can choose the correct charger with ease.

Tip sizes vary. The biggest is 7.4mm for the outer diameter and 5mm inside. The smallest is 4.8mm outside and just 1.7mm inside. You can measure this yourself to find out what size you need.

Power ratings go as high as 90W and to deduce the wattage, simply multiply the voltage by the amplitude. If you have a 19V x 4.74A charger, this is 90W, so you can easily see if this meets your needs.

The different power ratings of the chargers range from 90W to 65W so to be sure you are getting an HP Laptop Charger that is sufficient for the demands of your laptop, take some time to make these checks.

You can find the power information on the label of your old HP Adaptor. It will be in very small writing, but it is there as a legal requirement. If you do not have your laptop power supply, the same details can still be found on your laptop. Many laptops will have these details printed on a label stuck to the bottom of it. If you can’t see it there, try removing the battery and looking in the recess where the battery sits. So now you know the variations in possible HP Power Supplies, the task of finding a replacement should be that much easier.

How I Fixed the Xbox 360 RROD in Under an Hour

A few years ago, my 360 got those three red rings, and I really went through a nightmare of a situation. It happened to me again last week, but thanks to a guide that I found, I avoided all of the headaches I experienced the first time around.

So last week I had some friends over, and we were in the middle of a Madden marathon. I was really excited and we were all having a good time. During the 3rd quarter of one of our games, out of nowhere, everything froze up on me.

We turned off the Xbox 360 console and turned it back on, and the three blinking red lights showed their face – the RROD. I wasn’t happy about this at all.

What a way to ruin a night. My friend Scott was over and told me that he heard Microsoft is recently taking 8 weeks and more to fix it, and they often slap you with some unexpected bills. The average price of this can be up to $100.

I decided to call my friend James. He knows everything about these things. He pointed me to a guide that his brother had used to fix his Xbox 360 in less than an hour.

I checked it out and saw that they promised I’d have mine fixed in an hour or less, or I’d get all of my money back, guaranteed. Sounded good enough to me, especially considering my alternatives.

Just 25 minutes later I was the proud owner of a working Xbox 360 again. I followed their suggestions to a t and they worked. I was kind of surprised that Microsoft couldn’t provide this info to its owners, but I guess that comes with the territory when you’re a corporate giant.

Hopefully the red ring of death won’t happen to me again (they also give suggestions about how to prevent this for the future), but if it does, I won’t need to spend another dime. I have all of the info I need.

Xbox RROD 360 failure

Despite its popularity the Xbox 360 has been plagued by technical failures. The phrase ‘red ring of death’ has entered popular lexicon and is from the warning lights that are at the front of Microsoft’s games console. This is one of the most common of the technical issues that has caused the Xbox to develop its reputation.

“General hardware failure”

The three red lights indicate a “general hardware failure or “core digital failure,” meaning that the console may be “fatally” damaged. Although when the console first launched, Microsoft said that the Xbox 360′s failure rate was the typical 3 to 5% of the rest of the electronic industry’s goods, in fact, it is purported to be much, much higher than that. Today, Microsoft has not released official statistics on the failure rate of the console and instead has a “public relations” policy to promptly resolve any technical problems customers have.

However since its release it has become obvious that the percentage rate is far higher. Microsoft have refused to release any statistics on the exact failure rate but it is very telling that in July 2007 they were forced to offer an additional 3 year warranty extension to any of their customers that had experienced the ring of death.

What causes the ring of death?

Could be any of a large number of reasons. A prominent source, long suspected to have been a team leader in the Microsoft Xbox360 development team, says that it could be anything; parts, material problems, system design, pretty much anything.

It is claimed that Microsoft were aware of such issues, with as much as 68 out of every 100 units tested suffering a technical failure of some kind. The major problem being that the system design was such that any small issue or fault could cause the whole system to crash, the Xbox 360 did not have the flexibility required to keep going if there was a problem.

So what is the main cause of the failire?

Overheating. When the cooling systems within the Xbox 360 are unable to keep the console cool the machine will overheat. When this happens the thermal plates contained within the console will become too hot and start causing electrical failures. Microsoft have recognised this problem and, in October 2008, introduced a new motherboard system called ‘Jaspar’ that is designed specifically to work with reduced heat emmissions, which it is hoped will help reduce technical failures.

What should you do if you have the “red ring of death”?

There are some options open to you if you do suffer a technical failure that is reported by the ‘red ring of death’ Firstly Microsoft have promised to cover all 360′s for 3 years warranty if you do suffer such a fault, although obviously this is only good to you if you are the original owner and have the warranty. If you have bought the extended warranty then you will also be covered and they will extend you a one month gold card subscription. It is also possible to find paid solutions, with some companies available to fix your Xbox 360 for a fee.

The last option, and it should only be used as a last option, is to try repair the Xbox yourself. This will invalidate your warranty and could well damage it beyond repair so it is an option that you should think about carefully and only use as a last resort.
