Home Theater Setup Elements

without comments

A home theater system is an exciting entertainment choice that provides the consumer with an immersive viewing and listening experience. Your home theater system can be something as basic as a 27-inch TV and a home theater-in-a-box system, or a sophisticated custom-built system with video projector and in-wall speakers. Nonetheless, there is a lot to consider in-between. Here are the items you need for a well-balanced Home Theater System:

The Room: The first place to start is the room in which you intend to place your home theater system. The size of the room will determine the size and type of video display device (TV or projector) that might be best to utilize. However, whether your room is huge or small, additional questions to consider include… How much ambient light is present? Is the room carpeted or not carpeted? What type of wall construction do you have? Will you be placing your home theater system components in free space, or will you be housing your components in a cabinet or closet and installing your speakers in the wall or ceiling? Where will you be sitting in relation to the screen image?

Before embarking on buying your actual home theater system components, especially for a medium-to-high end system, it might be a good idea to consult with a home theater installer to come onsite and assess your room and address the above questions. The installer can make useful suggestions on components or installation concepts that will work best in your room environment, keeping in mind your own specific home theater system budgetary considerations.

The Video Display Device is the first actual component to consider for your home theater system. After all, the idea of home theater is to bring the movie theater experience into your house. The most important element of this experience is the visual experience of viewing a huge image on a screen. The actual size of the room will help determine the size of screen that can be accommodated. From there, you need to decide what type of video display device would be most appropriate.

In addition, at this point in time, with the increase in the amount of available HDTV programming sources, as well as HD source components, consider a fully integrated HDTV (ATSC tuner built-in), HD-compatible Television (requires an external ATSC tuner), or a Video projector, in lieu of a typical analog television. HDTVs, HD-compatible Televisions, and video projectors will deliver the most from new HD sources, however will additionally work with your older analog components, such as a VCR.

You additionally now have the choice of incorporating 3D viewing into your home theater system. Nonetheless, you will need a 3D-enabled TV and other supporting components to do this.

The next essential element of the movie theater experience is Sound Reproduction. The way this is implemented in a home theater system is with either an AV receiver or Preamp/Amp combination.

An AV Receiver usually combines the functions of three components: (A) A radio tuner for AM/FM and, in some cases, HD (High Definition Radio), Web Radio, or XM and/or Sirius Satellite Radio. (B) A Preamplifier that switches and controls which sound and video source is selected (such as a DVD player, VCR, CD player, etc…) and processes the incoming stereo or surround sound signals and distributes them to the correct amplifier channels and the subwoofer output. The preamp in an AV receiver can additionally route video signals coming from source components (such as a DVD player) and direct the video signal to the television. (C) A built-in Multi-channel amplifier (5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 channels) that sends the surround sound signals and power to the speaker system.

The Home Theater, AV, Surround Sound Receiver or Separate Preamp and Amplifier Receiver is the heart of a home theater system and provides most, if not really all of the inputs and outputs that you hook up, including your television, into. A Receiver provides an simple and cost-effective method of centralizing your your home theater system.

Nonetheless, in many higher-end home theater system installations, the functions of a Receiver are often provided by separate components: Preamp/Processor, Tuner, and either a single multi-channel amplifier or even separate amplifiers for each channel. Such a setup provides more flexibility in switching out and/or enhancing the separate aspects of the home theater system as well as isolating any interference that is caused by having all these functions combined in a signal chassis and sharing the same power supply. For the average consumer, however, a good Receiver will function just fine.

The next components to consider for your home theater system are the Loudspeakers. Just as the size and type of room dictates the type of video display device you need, the same factors additionally affect the speakers you need for your home theater. Two key points to remember: (A) Before you purchase, listen to several types of speaker setups. (B) Consider purchasing the same brand and related model speakers for your home theater. This will ensure that you will have a better acoustical match between both the speakers and the room.

The advent of home theater systems has introduced the Subwoofer to many consumers. A subwoofer is a specialized speaker that only reproduces the extreme low frequencies present in movies or music. There are several types of subwoofers you can use in a home theater system and, once again, the size and type of room and issues such as whether the room is carpeted or not will help you determine which subwoofer is right for you. Once again, you need to perform listening tests.

At a minimum, you need some type of Source Component like a DVD player for your home theater system. Two things to consider in a DVD player: Progressive Scan and Up-scaling capability. This will ensure that you receive the best possible image from your DVDs, particularly if you are viewing them on an HDTV.

Since all DVD players can play CDs, you may not need a CD player. However, having a separate CD-only player in a home theater system is quite common, particularly if it is a high-end unit providing better CD audio performance.

Additionally, if you choose to get a Blu-ray Disc player to access true high definition source content, instead, or in addition to, a DVD player, you can additionally utilize it to play standard DVDs and, in most situations, audio CDs as well.

In addition, you may likewise want to include a DVD recorder or DVD recorder/VCR combination in lieu of your old VCR. Nonetheless, you can still utilize your old VCR ( particularly if it is a Hi-Fi Stereo unit) with your home theater system – however, keep in mind VHS delivers very poor image quality in comparison to DVD, and although DVD is much better than VHS, Blu-ray really delivers a true high definition image. The differences are especially more noticeable as screen sizes get larger.

Also, you need to choose just how you will receive your primary television programming: Antenna, Cable, or Satellite. If you opt to subscribe to a Cable or Satellite Service, you might also consider combining that service with a DVR. DVRs provide a method to record your TV programs on a Hard Drive, rather than disc or tape.

Finally, another new home theater source choice is the Internet. If you have high-speed Web access, you can stream both music and movies, without having to purchase a DVD or Blu-ray Disc. An increasing number of Blu-ray Disc players and TVs have the capability to connect to the Internet for this purpose, but there are likewise external boxes, referred to as Network Media Players or Media Streamers, that provide this choice as well, and they are very affordable.

Surge Protectors are the unsung heroes of a home theater system. Although they are not really foolproof, providing your system with some sort of surge protection is a good idea. You never know when you might have a sudden power outage, or even a brown out that might possibly affect your system.

Additionally, if you want a more comprehensive way of protecting against power surges, as well as being able to monitor your power, and in some cases regulate your power, you might consider a Line Conditioner.

You can’t have a home theater system unless everything is hooked up. Whether you buy basic connection cables and speaker wire or the really high-end stuff, the main things to consider are using the right type, right length, and hooking up everything correctly. Some connections are color-coded; make sure the colors on the cable ends match the connections on your components to makes things a lot easier.

In terms of speaker cable, the gauge of the cable can be a factor, depending on the distance the speakers are from the amplifier or AV receiver. I utilize 16 or 14 gauge speaker wire myself. 18 gauge is very thin and really should not be used for longer distances.

Universal Remote Control: One of the most confusing parts of a home theater system is not really all the components and connections, but actually maintaining and controlling it. Each component in a home theater system comes with its own remote, leading to a collection that can number half-a-dozen or more. One solution is to opt for a sophisticated, though simpler to use, universal remote that can control most of the functions of each of your components. After the initial hurdle of programming the remote for your system, such a device will enable everyone in the family to utilize the home theater system without frustration.

You have a fancy home theater system, now you need some comfortable furniture that will make you want to allocate time with your home theater. Your furniture can be of the conventional sofa and chair variety, or you can opt for specialized home theater furniture that includes features such as built-in cup holders and overstuffed padding.

There you have it, the basic elements of a home theater system. There is no home theater system that is exactly like another; everybody has different rooms, budgets, brand preferences, and decorative tastes when it comes to their home theater. The key thing is to keep the basic elements of a well-balanced home theater in mind, while assembling it according to your own desires and tastes.

Although putting together a basic home theater system is not as complicated as it seems on the surface and may be a nice weekend project for most consumers, when installing a high-end custom home theater, make sure you enlist the aide of a professional home theater installer.

Watch Mad TV Online

without comments

Because of today’s technological advancements, certain aspects of our life have become easier and a lot more convenient. For one, the internet has allowed us to have a quick and easy access to information, communication, and even entertainment. Now, let me ask you one question – Have you heard about MADtv? If yes, do you want to watch MAD TV online?

Well, the internet simply gives you access to literally hundreds or even thousands of shows and movies, both from the past and from the present. It is for this very reason that the World Wide Web is such a great place to look for sitcoms that have long been gone from cable TV. Classic TV shows such as an old sitcom from the 1970s, a soap opera from the 1980s, or a late night show in the 1990s, are all over the internet. With the use of your preferred search engine, you are sure to find such shows somewhere online. This will consequently spare you from the hassle of going through old VHS tapes or haggling in flea markets for old copies.

As for MADtv, it is a late night American sketch comedy television series that is based on the humor and comic stylings of MAD magazine. This television series, which was created by Fax Bahr and Adam Small in the year 1995, is much like Saturday Night Live and In Living Color in that it mines the world of popular culture for subjects that are ripe for parody. Much of its comedy parodies and satirizes celebrities, popular television shows, movies, and music, and covers topical, political, and pop cultural humor.

The stars of the show include Michael McDonald, Debra Wilson, and Aries Spears. The directors, on the other hand, include Bruce Leddy, David Grossman, and Amanda Bearse. Throughout its entire run, the series won several awards which include a number from the Emmy Awards, from the Art Directors Guild Awards, from the Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Awards, from the Image Awards, and from the Canadian Comedy Awards.

It was November of the year 2008 that Fox announced that MADtv’s 14th season would be its last. With 315 episodes all in all, the series finale aired on May 16, 2009.

But even if the series has already ended, you can always watch your favorite episodes again or the entire fourteen seasons by trusting the World Wide Web to help you watch MAD TV online.

Why Choose Live Draft? – Fantasy Football

without comments

The attractiveness of fantasy football has grown greatly in the last few years. A lot of its accomplishment is due to the internet, where web sites easily track scoring and the amount of time to hold a draft has been reduced by half or more. Many sites use the same options and attributes for the draft procedure. Below discusses a few of those features for those involved in undertaking a live online draft.

Your fantasy football draft is one of the features of the fantasy football year. By the choices you make throughout the draft, quite a few times you determine that day whether or not you will join your league’s playoffs. Of course, there will be quite a few chances in the course of the season to strengthen your team also. But don’t underestimate the significance of a good draft.

Many leagues utilize a draft process that enables each team about a minute and a half to select a player when it is that teams turn to select. If you run out of time, the computer chooses a player for you, based on their standings or your own if you’ve arranged them ahead of time. You may also decide to auto draft, which means letting the computer to pick the next ideal player or the finest player at the position that hasn’t been filled yet. This signifies you don’t have to be there, but also takes the enjoyment out of the draft procedure.

During the draft, most sites make it possible for you to search for the player you want to draft, or you can sort all the players by the position they play. They will also have their fantasy points from last season posted, the projected points for the upcoming season, together with other general stats. These fields are normally sortable.

Our league includes a dozen teams, and a total of fifteen rounds in the draft. One huge benefit of conducting an online draft instead of an offline live draft is the time factor. Ours generally lasts below two hours with 12 teams picking. This would take much longer the old fashioned method, with no way to enforce a time limit, team owners not monitoring who was picked already, and a range of other interruptions. This is the way it used to be done ahead of the vast upgrades to fantasy football websites that you see today. The amount of rounds in your draft will be decided by the number of roster destinations permitted on your team. This is typically determined by the league’s commissioner (the person who set up the league) or is set up by the web site you are utilizing.

When its your turn, basically click on the fantasy football player you desire to draft, and there will usually be a button that shows up below his name, stating something like “Draft”. Many sites will have a little field where they make it possible for you to drag and drop players that you have your eye on picking. You will need to have two or 3 players in mind to pick just before it’s your turn, and the arrangement of which you need the most. If you’ve only researched and made a decision on a single player before it’s your turn and the man or woman right before you picks him, you will have a severe set back. You’ll need to attempt to uncover someone in a hurry, in less than 2 minutes, or be caught with whoever the computer determines that you get. I like to do a bit of research days in advance, and make a cheat sheet of the players I want to acquire, or the roster spot I want to fill in every round. This will be a important advantage for you, determining a method ahead of time.

That’s pretty much it. Those are the basics to performing a live internet draft. If you are still uncertain about the process, several sites will permit you to do what is referred to as a “mock draft”. You will connect with random other people in an online draft space and in essence do a practice draft. This might assist you to get familiar with the web site that you plan on working with on draft day.

Interesting in creating your first fantasy football team? Learning how fantasy football online works?

Can 3D TVs Really Make You Sick? Read This Before You Buy One!

without comments

Yes there’s a newbie on the block. It’s a new generation HDTV called 3D. The jury is still out on this new HDTV product. Just for the record a three dimensional television set is a TV that enables home viewers to enjoy video content using a stereo for the eyes effect. In 3D, 2 unique images of the identical scene are used, 1 image per eye. While wearing the 3D TV eyeglasses, the images are combined and it produces a single image. This technology creates the 3rd dimension optical illusion that is displayed on your TV. Now you need to know that everyone may not be able to see this 3D effect. They experience something identified as stereo blindness. However it’s uncommon and to be truthful very few people have this issue.

You can be sure that 2011 will see 3D TV rise to the next level because big business is betting that consumers will jump on this new High Def product. Led by the sports industry (can you see the potential there) ESPN is banking on a 3D fan following. To be fair watching sports in 3D is something different. The home will be the spot where you’ll be watching this and although we can currently watch high-definition TV sports with clarity and detail, the 3D experience pulls you into the event so that you feel like a part of the game. You can even see the motion picture industry getting into the act. They are churning out a new crop of 3D movies for our consumption.

Here’s some basic things to know about 3D TV. To date you can only watch either 2D or 3D but neither simultaneously. One other point. Apparently all 3D TVs are not made equal. Appears like we’ve got that old Plasma versus LCD debate reprised. Yes plasma television fans claim that 3D is significantly better suited to their technology and they could be right. Only time will tell. The feeling of the plasma industry is that their product enhances the 3D experience and this is the key to their future. On of the most respected high tech big businesses, IBM, believes that the future of holographic technology will evolve from 3D TV. This innovative holographic technology may eventually be shrunk down for use on our mobile phones and moreover has telepresence (video conferencing) uses. IBM envisions that our computer interaction will change as a result of this 3D technology. So here’s the question. Is 3D here to stay or just a passing fad? Is this something people would actually buy for their home? Three things about 3D TV that may surprise you.

1. 3D has a funny way of ruining TV watching. Let’s face we all spend a lot of family time around the TV. Sadly much of our family socialization revolves around our TV viewing. The glasses restrict us to staring at the TV so watching 3D programming changes this interaction. Multi-taskers will lose their ability to do other things while watching their 3D TV. This means no texting , tweeting or chatting while watching 3D TV.

2. TV watching is usually a family experience so in many ways it’s a form of socializing. Watching 3D programming significantly changes this interaction. The glasses restrict us to just looking at the TV. Also multi-taskers will not like the inability to do other things (like multi-task!) while entranced by their 3D TV. This means no chatting, tweeting or texting while watching a show.

3. Believe it or not you really need to think about the health risks. 3D viewing can cause headaches and eye-strain for some people. Also, similar to virtual reality gaming, 3D tricks the brain and can cause disorientation or nausea. I know because virtual reality games have that effect on me and it’s fairly common. Lastly nobody knows about the potential for long-term effects from watching extended 3D TV.

So those are the big three reasons to me with a couple of side ones thrown in. Ahh – OK I can’t help myself because I am a critic. Let me throw in one last thing. There is currently a lack of content so if you buy one of these TVs you won’t have too much to watch. 3D may stick around but they need more innovation (maybe a TV that does not require those darn glasses). I think I’ll wait and see how this 3D really turns out.
