The WoW Warlock Guide
My WoW warlock guide should point you down the correct path when you are getting started playing as a warlock. Warlocks are well known for their shadow and fire magic spells and especially for their ability to summon and enslave demons. They are adept necromancers that deal in misery and agony. They can inflict incredible destruction from far away but are rarely in the thick of the fighting due to their poor armor class. Exclusive to the warlock class are soul shards, which are consumed by various spells and can be acquired from defeated mobs. The warlock is easily one of the fastest leveling classes and truly shines when soloing. In a group, warlocks are frequently the top DPS dealers.
Allowable races for warlocks are Blood Elves, Gnomes, Humans, Orcs, and Undead. Warlocks restricted to wearing cloth armor, not unlike the other magic hurling classes. Weapon-wise, warlocks are restricted to just using daggers, staves, swords and wands.
There are several demonic minions a warlock can summon including the Felguard, Doomguard, Infernal, Felhunter, Succubus, Voidwalker, and Imp. Every minion has it’s place with both advantages and disadvantages. Warlocks primarily use damage over time (DoT) and DD (direct damage) spells, but they also have several specialty spells which can be useful such as conjuring Soul Stones. They’re able to make use of soul shards in order to conjure a variety of items and to resurrect fallen comrades. They also have a minor self healing power via drain life, and some crowd control abilities ,too. Since warlocks can get their mounts through quests, they save bucket loads of money that most other classes have to pay.
The Affliction talent specialization relies heavily on DoT’s, drains, and curses. This talent tree is good for boss fights, raiding, and farming. This is commonly acknowledged as being the best leveling spec for warlocks.
The Demonology talent tree specialization focuses mainly on spells and additional benefits for your demons that make them stronger and more powerful. Demonology is a good specialization for survivability, PvP and leveling. When you want to build the most powerful minions, this is the specialization to go with.
Destruction uses talents that are meant to increase the effectiveness of the warlock’s shadow and fire spells, which are primarily direct damage spells that can be used to quickly eliminate one enemy. The Destruction talent tree is better utilized later in the game, because it is hard to stay alive long enough to use it effectively during lower levels. It requires a lot of soul shards, isn’t mana efficient, and is difficult to use for people who want to play by themselves.
